Caring For You Every Step of the Way
At Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, our approach to treating colorectal cancer involves a multidisciplinary team and treatment plans tailored to both your individual characteristics as a patient and the specific features of the cancer itself.
Our surgeons are pioneers in robotic and digital surgery for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer and leaders in sphincter preservation. We're also finding innovative ways to manage the disease without surgery whenever possible to preserve organs.
From support groups to counseling to integrative medicine care, we have all the services needed to treat not just the disease, but the whole person – and their loved ones – as they progress on this journey towards cure.
"Each patient is unique with their own beliefs and perspectives. My goal to achieve a successful and healthy, disease-free partnership by empowering them with the appropriate medical knowledge to make the best decisions."

Advanced Care
All of our patients receive care based on the same protocols and practice standards provided at MD Anderson Cancer Center. We follow an evidence-based, multidisciplinary model of care. That means we meet regularly as a group to discuss your individual case. During these scheduled meetings, all of the treating physicians and healthcare professionals go in-depth and work together on your treatment plan.
With your team of doctors and support staff in one location, scheduling appointments is much easier. A nurse navigator will also be assigned to your case to guide you through every step of the way. Our navigators offer education, coordinate appointments and support you and your family.
Your physical, emotional and spiritual needs are important, too. Your care plan includes support services from social workers, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists and chaplains. Our survivorship services and prevention programs are also available to provide care at every stage.

EDUCATIONAL OVERVIEW
What is Colorectal Cancer?
Colorectal cancer forms in either the colon, a five-foot section of the large intestine, or the rectum, which connects the colon to the anus and holds waste, called stool, before it is expelled.
Colon cancer and rectal cancer start the same way and share many risk factors and symptoms. The two are often referred to together as colorectal cancer. There are some significant differences between them, though.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Recognizing Common Signs of Colorectal Cancer
Don't hesitate to bring up changes in bowel habits, pain or any other symptoms during routine appointments. Early detection through routine screenings and awareness of risk factors can contribute to the effective prevention and management of colon cancer.
